about
This is a morning prayer meditation recorded in April 2016 bt the river soon before it reaches Pwll Du, one of Gower's wilder and more remote beaches. It draws from various ancient traditions but is centred in and directed towards the Christ Consciousness which pervades all being, irrespective of time, place, language, tradition, culture or anything else.
lyrics
Oh, Great Spirit,
Whose voice I hear in the winds
and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me.
I am small and weak.
I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes
ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may understand
the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden
in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be superior to my brother,
but to fight my greatest enemy - myself.
Make me always ready to come to you
with clean hands and straight eyes,
so when life fades, as the fading sunset,
my spirit will come to you
without shame.
(American Indian Lakota Chief Yellow Lark)
Yield and remain whole;
Bend and remain straight.
Be empty and remain full.
Be worn and remain anew.
Own little and be replete.
Own much and be restless.
Therefore the Sage embraces the ONE
And sets an example for the whole world.
He does not display himself,
And so he shines;
He does not defend himself,
And so he is distinguished;
He does not swagger,
And so he never stumbles;
He does not exult,
And so he excels.
He does not contend,
And so the world cannot contend with him.
The ancient adage "Yield and remain whole"
Is not empty assertion.
Be truly whole
And all things will come to you.
(from 'Tao Te Ching')
May the blessing of the Gatherer of Hope,
the Bringer of Springtime,
the Brightener of Seasons.
be upon me as I set forth today.
Laughter of the running hours be mine,
and with the leave of lightness, may I come home in joy.
Amen.
